Good morning, Spartans! Guess who was drafted! Grace VanSlooten was picked 39th in the WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. She is the ninth Spartan in program history to be drafted.

🔼 Scheduled! The football team has announced its Homecoming game will be on Saturday, Oct. 10! The game time will be announced at a later date.  

🔼 Top Goalie. Men’s ice hockey goalie Trey Augustine won the 2026 Mike Ritcher Award. The award recognizes the top goaltender in NCAA Division I men's hockey. Established in 2014, this award is named after New York Rangers Hall of Fame goaltender, Mike Richter. In 2025-26, Augustine finished with a 24-9-1 record which included an 11-5-0 record against ranked opponents and a 10-2-0 record against teams ranked in the Top Five. He set a new career-best with a .929 save percentage on the season, alongside a 2.11 goals-against average and 947 saves. His .929 save percentage ranks No. 6 among goaltenders nationally and his 2.11 goals against average is eleventh.

🔼 Gala Recap. Michigan State’s Student-Athlete Support Services recognized the success of Spartan student-athletes during the 29th annual Spartan Academic Excellence Gala. To qualify for the academic gala, student-athletes must be in at least their third semester at MSU and have obtained a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or have earned a 3.00 or higher GPA during the 2025 calendar year. Graduates are recognized as well. The awards presented included the President’s Award, Athletic Director’s Award, Gwendolyn Norrell Community Service & Leadership Award, etc.

🔼 He’s Staying! Gymnastics head coach Mike Rowe signed a three-year contract extension. His contract now runs through 2029. Rowe, who is completing his ninth season as head coach in 2026, holds a 159-101-1 record with the Spartans, including a 24-8 record this season and back-to-back program-record 29-win seasons in 2024 and 2025. Since 2022, MSU has finished each season ranked inside the top 15 and posted a program-best No. 6 final ranking in 2025.  

🔼 Top Spartans. Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. This month's honorees are wrestler Kael Wisler and gymnast Olivia Zsarmani. Wisler has a 3.74 GPA in the classroom while majoring in civil engineering. Zsarmani is majoring in advertising management and has a 3.40 GPA.
