Spartan Brew 8/9: Tre Bien
Today, we're not surprised Tre Mosley is up for the Wuerffel Trophy again.
Good morning! Call us Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers because we are ready for a break down—two to be exact as we’ve got deep dives on both sides of the ball for Michigan State football as they gear up for the season.
Scroll on down to read all about it.
What else are we serving in to today's Brew?

🏈 Tre Mosley up for the Wuerffel Trophy
💚 And much, much more
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Two Good. Michigan State is just 23 days away from kicking off their season against Central Michigan and with fall camp in full swing we’ve gotten enough good looks at both sides of the ball to tell you what’s standing out, what’s got us encouraged, and more.
🔼 Crazy (Good) Eight. Michigan State graduate defender Raegan Cox has been named a Division I Defender To Watch by the United Soccer Coaches. She’s one of 35 players to earn a spot on the list and one of two Big Ten representatives—joining Rutgers' Emily Mason.
A key piece of the Spartan backline last season, Raegan Cox started and played in 22 games and and ranked fourth among the team in minutes played with 1,666. MSU led the conference in fewest goals allowed (15), and goals against average (0.646) in 2022.
🤔 SPARTAN TRIVIA
First time, long time. Michigan State football ends their season with a bang this year, hosting Penn State at Ford Field in Detroit under the lights of a nationally televised game on NBC.
And if you’re trying to remember all the times Michigan State has played football in Detroit and coming up empty… well… you’re not alone.
Since 1944, the Spartans have played just two games in the Motor City.
Our question today—can you remember those two opponents? (We’ll give you a hint. One was in 2010 and one was all the way back in 1944.)
Think you got it? Scroll down to the bottom of this email for the answer!
💚 ONE BIG THING
Tre bien. For the second consecutive year, Michigan State graduate senior wide receiver Tre Mosley has been named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy—the premier award for community service in college football. Earlier this summer, he was also named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Tre Mosley has volunteered his time at several events in the community throughout his collegiate career, including instructing students at elementary schools, helping at coaching clinics, and delivering donations. He also led the Teams for Toys effort for football during the holidays, volunteered during Operation Teammate's military families visit to campus, and helped at the "Be the Match" bone marrow drive on campus in April.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: FAU and Wayne State!
The last appearance for the Spartans in Detroit was a 30-17 victory over Florida Atlantic on September 11, 2010.
Prior to that, the Spartans’ last appearance in downtown Detroit was October 27, 1944, when Coach Charlie Bachman led the Spartans to a 32-0 victory over Wayne State in a contest played at University of Detroit Stadium.
