🔼 Stayin’ Alive. Michigan State reliver Wyatt Rush closed the door on a Rutgers comeback while the Spartan bats rallied for a 6-4 victory as the eighth-seeded Spartans eliminated the fifth-seeded Scarlet Knights in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament.

MSU's victory was the first upset of the tournament, as the previous games had all been won according to seeding. The win was also the Spartans' first B1G Tournament win since 2016, as MSU had gone 0-2 in its last tourney appearance in 2018. Overall, Michigan State is making its eighth appearance under head coach Jake Boss Jr., and the Spartans have won at least one game in six of those eight visits, as well as two games in four of the eight.

The win moves Michigan State to 33-21 on the season and helps them advance to Game 10 of the Tournament where they’ll face Nebraska tonight at 8:00pm ET.

🔼 ICYMI. Michigan State Athletics will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Spartan Stadium leading up to kickoff and throughout the 2023 season this fall.

With less than 100 days remaining to the 2023 season opener against Central Michigan, MSU Athletics has launched Spartan Stadium 100—commemorating the home of Michigan State football and featuring historical photos, a listing of top games, video highlights from some of the top moments in Spartan Stadium history, and more!

🔼 Movin’ On. Michigan State track & field sophomore Opal Jackson punched her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put to highlight a second successful day for the Spartans at the NCAA East Preliminary Round last night in Jacksonville.

Jackson, whose second-round 16.63m throw was good for 11th place, qualifies for her first NCAA Championship in her first collegiate outdoor season. She is the first Spartan to qualify in the event since Katelyn Daniels in 2018. She’s also the fourth Spartan to move on to the NCAA Championships this season and first on the women's side, following Trevor Stephenson (pole vault), Ryan Talbot (decathlon), and Heath Baldwin (decathlon).

🔼 Something To Build Off. Michigan State men's tennis' Ozan Baris and Max Sheldon's run in the NCAA Doubles Championship came to an end yesterday as the duo fell to Georgia Tech's 30th-ranked Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel, 7-6(0), 6-4, in the Round of 16.

The match featured two back-and-forth sets with multiple lead changes. The 10th-ranked Spartan duo had a chance to force an additional game in the second set, but were unable to close out the deciding point.

The match also marked the end of a stellar season for the doubles team that has posted a final spring record of 8-3—including a 6-2 record against nationally-ranked doubles teams. The pair earned a spot in the ITA Doubles Rankings for 13-straight weeks and reached a season-high at No. 6 on two occasions. Both underclassmen were recognized as First-Team All-Big Ten honorees, and Ozan Baris was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year—the first Spartan to earn the award since 1993.

Michigan State returns seven of its nine players from the 2023 roster and welcomes two nationally-ranked transfers for the 2024 season.

🤔 SPARTAN TRIVIA

Feeling Like Football. And why not? We need something to distract us from the fact that the weather could get up into the 90’s next week. Come quickly, fall weather.

On that note… Michigan State football is going back-to-back from last season to this year opening up at home against an in-state opponent. In 2022, it was Eastern Michigan.

Who do the Spartans host for their first home game this season?
