🔼 In The Nick of Time. With one second remaining in the Spartans’ game against Maryland, sixth-year kicker Jonathan Kim split the uprights on a 37-yard field goal to send Michigan State football home with a 27-24 win. The Spartans improved to 2-0 on the season as head coach Jonathan Smith won his Big Ten debut. The Spartans outgained the Terrapins, 493-339, led by standout offensive performances from freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh who caught eight passes for 194 yards, and sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles, who tossed three touchdowns on 363 yards.

🔼 Finished The Job. Spartan midfielder Justina Gaynor's 84th-minute goal lifted No. 5 Michigan State women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Loyola Chicago Sunday at DeMartin in MSU's non-conference finale. With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-0-2 and complete the non-conference portion of their schedule undefeated for the second time in the Jeff Hosler era. MSU opens Big Ten play on the road against Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in College Park.

🔼 Broomsticks. Spartan volleyball swept its competition at the Kathy DeBoer Invitational with three wins over the weekend. Friday’s contest against Western Kentucky and Sunday’s matchup against Loyola Chicago resulted in four-set wins while Saturday saw the Spartans sweep Marist. After the dust settled, Michigan State improved to 4-2 on the season and will look to carry momentum into Wednesday’s matchup against Western Michigan.

🔼 ‘Til The End. Michigan State men's soccer closed out a four-game homestand with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Air Force on Friday Night at DeMartin Stadium. The Spartans came out aggressive in the second half, looking to get on the scoreboard first. In the 60th minute, junior midfielder Jonathan Stout took a beautiful pass from graduate midfielder Shion Soga and drilled it into the back of the net.

🔼 Overtime Thriller. Michigan State field hockey took Ohio to double-overtime but ultimately fell 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Bianca Pizano's goal was her team-best third of the season and is also a career-best for the sophomore. Ellie Rutherford scored her first goal of the season and now has 1-2-4 on the season. Next weekend, MSU travels to Kentucky for a noon start on Friday and then returns home for an 11 a.m. contest against Colgate on Sunday morning.
