Spartan Brew 9/15: Welcome to the Hall of Fame!

MSU Athletics inducted the Class of 2025 over the weekend!

What else do we have brewing today?

🏈 3-0
👟 Defended home turf
💚 And much, much more

🔼 3-0! Michigan State football closed out non-conference play with a 41-24 win over Youngstown State on Saturday and will enter Big Ten play at 3-0!

Junior quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 22-of-29 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown, while running eight times for 76 yards. Redshirt senior running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver had four carries for 37 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and sophomore running back Brandon Tullus had four carries for 31 yards and a touchdown.

🔼 Keep On Rolling! Michigan State volleyball won again on Friday in Georgia, taking down previously-unbeaten Appalachian State in five sets to improve to 7-0 on the season!

The Spartans are off to their best start since 2012, when the team began the season at 12-0. The 7-0 start also matches the best start in program history for a first-year head coach, with head coach Kristen Kelsay matching Annelies Knoppers' 7-0 start in 1974.

🔼 Call It Even. Michigan State women’s soccer opened Big Ten play with a draw against Rutgers on Friday, with Bella Najera scoring a goal in the 66th minute to bring the Spartans even with the Scarlet Knights.

🔼 Freaky Fast. Michigan State men’s cross country dominated the Spartan Invite at the Forest Akers East Golf Course on Friday morning, the site of this fall’s Big Ten Championships.

The MSU men won the 8k race for the second-straight season with 28 points, while Grand Valley State finished second with 66 points. The Spartan women finished second in the 6k race with 89 points, behind Northwestern with 18 points.

🔼 Out East. Michigan State field hockey split a pair of games in Burlington, Vt., over the weekend, dropping a close matchup with Vermont on Friday before bouncing back with a 7-1 win over Merrimack on Saturday.

🏑 RECAPS: Vermont | Merrimack

🔼 Western Weekend. Michigan State men’s soccer opened Big Ten play at Washington late on Friday night, falling to the Huskies, 2-1.

🔼 Bay Day. Michigan State men's tennis players Taym Alazmeh and Ozan Baris traveled to San Francisco, California, to compete in both doubles and singles action at the Battle in the Bay Tournament over the weekend. Baris reached the final, finishing as the runner-up, while Alazmeh reached the consolation final.
