Spartan Brew 9/1: Starting 1-0

Michigan State opened the season with a Friday night win.

🔼 1-0. Michigan State stayed undefeated in Friday night season openers in East Lansing with a 23-6 win over Western Michigan to kick off the 2025 campaign. The ground game came to play for the Spartans with sophomore running back Makhi Frazier rushing 14 times for 103 yards and a touchdown, and fellow sophomore Brandon Tullis tallying seven carries for 52 yards and a score.

On the other side of the ball, junior linebacker Jordan Hall set the tone, posting eight tackles, three solo, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack, while redshirt senior Wayne Matthews III logged his first career interception. Defensively, Michigan State held Western Michigan to just 29 total rushing yards while posting four QB sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.

Up next? Michigan State will welcome Boston College to Spartan Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on NBC.
