🔼 Statement Made. Michigan State men’s basketball picked up one of its biggest wins of the season on Saturday, taking down No. 10 Illinois, 88-80, inside the Breslin Center.

A.J. Hoggard tied a career-high with 23 points, with Malik Hall right behind him with 22 of his own, and Tyson Walker (19) and Jaden Akins (10) joined them in double figures.

🔼 As Good As It Gets. No. 9 Michigan State hockey stomped No. 11 Michigan 5-1 on Friday night to get the weekend started, and took down the Wolverines 3-2 on Saturday for the weekend sweep against its in-state rival!

The wins clinch the Spartans home ice for the Big Ten Tournament and moves their win total to 20 on the season.

🔼 It’s Been 28 Years. No. 10 Michigan State gymnastics picked up yet another Big Ten win over the weekend, taking down No. 25 Illinois 197.475 - 196.275 in Jenison Field House.

The Spartans are now 4-0 in Big Ten action, their best start to a conference schedule since 1996!

🔼 Fought ‘Til The End. Despite outscoring No. 5 Ohio State 24-11 in the fourth quarter on Sunday, Michigan State women’s basketball couldn’t quite catch up to the Buckeyes in a 86-71 loss.

DeeDee Hagemann scored 10 points and dished out assist No. 400 in her career, becoming just the ninth Spartan to reach that mark.

🔼 Like Fine Nine. Make it nine wins in a row for No. 16 Michigan State men’s tennis, as the Spartans took down Clemson 6-1 on Friday night.

The Spartans won the doubles point and then got singles wins from Ronald Hohmann, Ozan Baris, Aristotelis Thanos, Taym Alazmeh and Max Sheldon.

🔼 Records Fall. Not one, not two…Ok, this could take a while — a whopping 49 Michigan State track & field athletes earned PRs over the weekend!

Twenty-five of the Spartans’ 35 distance runners who competed set personal records.

🔼 One More For The Road. Michigan State wrestling picked up four individual wins against Maryland on Sunday, but fell to the Terps, 28-15.

Jordan Hamdan (141 pounds), Chase Saldate (157), Caleb Fish (165) and Layne Malczewski (184) all registered wins in their bouts.

🔼 Own The State. Michigan State women’s tennis’ win streak grew to four matches over the weekend with a pair of 4-0 wins over Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

🔼 Plenty Left. Michigan State softball got off to a tough start at the Paradise Classic, going 0-5 against Ohio, Marshall (x2), No. 12 Arkansas and FAU.

“It’s ultimately about scoring points. You can do that running the ball, running to set up the pass, passing to set up the run. A lot of it boils down to the quarterback. You want to put that guy in good positions with what he’s comfortable with.”

Michigan State head football coach Jonathan Smith talked all about what his offense will look like during last week’s episode of the This Is Sparta MSU Show!
