🔼 Six ➡️ Seven. Michigan State wrestling’s six-match win streak didn’t last long over the weekend…

Because it quickly moved to seven matches after the Spartans’ win over Ohio!

Michigan State and Ohio traded wins over the first four bouts on Saturday, but pulled away after that with five wins in the last six matchups, including pins by Chase Saldate and Josh Terrill. The biggest win of the night belonged to Caleb Fish, who took down No. 9-ranked Garrett Thompson at 165 pounds.

🔼 Excellent Exhibition. It may not have counted toward its record this season, but Michigan State hockey’s 5-2 exhibition win over the US National Team Development Program on Friday sure was fun!

Five Spartans scored the five goals — Austin Oravetz, Karsen Dorwart, Joey Larson, Gavin O’Connell and Daniel Russell.

And there was also a Spartan who scored against the team — Michigan State commit Austin Baker found the back of the net for the USNTDP.

🔼 Road Woes. Sunday wasn’t Michigan State men’s basketball’s day, as the Spartans fell on the road at Northwestern, 88-74.

The Wildcats shot 54 percent from the field and turned the ball over just five times, and the Spartans couldn’t claw back from a 15-point halftime deficit. Tyson Walker led Michigan State with 27 points.

🔼 Stuck The Landing. What happened in Vegas over the weekend will not stay in Vegas, and in fact, will live on forever — Michigan State gymnast Sage Kellerman scored a perfect 10.000 on vault at the Super 16, only the fifth perfect score in program history!

As a team, the No. 11 Spartans finished third at the event, falling in line behind No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 9 Kentucky, and beating No. 6 Michigan.

💚 ONE BIG THING

🔼 Choosing Home. When Michigan State senior Davis Smith chose to play basketball for the Spartans, he was choosing to stick close to home.

The walk-on has grown into a leadership role for Tom Izzo’s squad and has had a major impact on the program behind closed doors.
